california/oregon coast, part two

friday, we drove out to san francisco.

we did a tour of alcatraz, which was very interesting.
we had grumpy and grumpier with us on our tour (b and m).
if we do that again, i think they're staying home.

alcatraz and pier 39

downtown san francisco

us on the island with sf in the background

in front of "the rock"

"the rock"

golden gate bridge from the ferry to alcatraz

the last time i was at pier 39 (like 15 years ago) there were so many sea lions.
i was telling the mr. how many would be there and how they all sunbathe on the docks.
we got there and there was literally 2 docks full.
not the 10-15ish docks full.
T-W-O.
good thing i wasn't telling that to b and she got her heart broken.

the sea lions at pier 39.

then we went and drove over the golden gate bridge.
then we walked back over part of it.
humongous!

there were a couple guys up top there working on the bridge.
you can see where one guy was standing only by the shadow that doesn't look like it belongs.

my sweet hubby (that refuses to take pictures of himself) posing for a picture with me...his idea!

then of course, we had to drive down lombard street.
you can't go to san francisco and NOT drive down the crookedest (is that a word??) street.

we missed a couple things that i would have liked to see.
we'll have to see them next time we make it back to sf:
ghiradelli square
the painted ladies
ghiradelli square
oh, did I already mention that?
