advice please!!

the day finally came when baby girl figured out that she can stand up in her crib.
i've been hoping that she wouldn't ever figure it out, but she did.

here's the problem:
as i'm typing, she's supposed to be taking a nap.
she keeps standing up and won't go to sleep.
the mr. has laid her back down 3 times, but she keeps standing up.

what have you other mothers done for this?
right now, she's still taking 2 naps a day, usually around 10:30 am and 2:30 pm.
do we go to one a day?
do i let her play until she just falls asleep?

please help.

  1. Oh just wait! Jackobi not only thinks it's awesome to stand up in her crib, but now she also likes to jump! For nap time I let her play until she falls asleep. When she starts to get tired I lay a pillow out on the floor and she snuggles in it and crashes. Then I transfer her. At night time, she knows it's time for bed when I put her in her crib. Must be because it's dark or something, but she actually does okay. Good luck! Let me know if you come up with any good 'tricks!'

  2. Ok, so napping has not been the easiest endeavor in our house either. We "ferberized" Ashlyn at about 6 mos. It worked wonders and she goes to bed at night without a peep. We just lay her down and she goes to sleep on her own every night. Nap time, however, is a totally different story. We tried leaving her in there, letting her play, letting her cry it out... none of it worked for us. I remember a couple of times that she cried the entire length of her nap time (we would go in often and on to check her but not let her out). The only thing that worked for us is holding her. We haven't held her to a specific nap time (probably should have) and just let her play until she's getting tired. Then we'll hold her until she dozes off and transfer her to her bed. Sometimes she still fights it and it can be frustrating sitting holding her to no avail. We're actually looking for something else that will work, but I'm a little afraid we've formed too many bad habits. Sorry that probably doesn't help much...I'll be checking back to see what other advice you get cuz we could use it too! hehe
BTW, Ashlyn is 11 mos. and is still taking 2 naps a day. I say hold on to the naps as long as you can! hehe
